TRIBUTE: Linda Perry

10 mins

LINDA PERRY burst onto the scene in the mid-‘90s like a supernova as the lead singer and songwriter of 4 Non Blondes. “What’s Up,” the San Francisco band’s lead single, not only became a worldwide smash, 32 years later it remains a generational anthem that stands as one of the ‘90s’ signature songs. Perry was poised to be a superstar, and then she left the band, turning her back on commercial stardom to become a star-making producer and songwriter, working with Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Love, Pink, Joan Jett, The Chicks, Cheap Trick, Miley Cyrus, and others. In 2020 she received her fourth of five Grammy nominations, this one for Best Song Written for a Visual Medium, for “Girl in the Movies” composed for the Dumplin’ film soundtrack.  Perry made her feature debut as a composer of film scores with Citizen Penn (2020), and went on to score To Leslie (2022), Out of My Mind (2024), and other film and television projects. In 2024, Citizen Penn director Don Hardy premiered Linda Perry: Let It Die Here, an acclaimed documentary that shone a spotlight on Perry’s personal and professional life. Most recently, Perry released Let It Die Here (2026), her first solo album in 11 years. The Festival salutes Linda Perry with a tribute celebrating her extraordinary career.
