Audio Description

On the morning of Eid al-Fitr, as Muslims prepare to celebrate the end of Ramadan, tenants in a small Glasgow district notice an Immigration Enforcement van outside their windows. When two longtime neighbors are detained, text alerts set off a chain of events that quickly transforms the street into the site of an extraordinary act of solidarity. Blending crowdsourced mobile phone footage, archival material, interviews, and creative dramatizations featuring performances by Emma Thompson and Kate Dickie, the documentary captures the real-life standoff between residents and authorities. Taking on a nonconformist structure, the film conveys both the urgency of the moment and the deeper histories of migration, racism, and activism that shaped the city. At once deeply local and universally resonant, it is a testament to what can happen when a community refuses to look away. Winner of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Award for Civil Resistance. —Michelle Svenson
